When Aglaonema Madonna became known as a houseplant in the 1980s, it quickly developed into a popular choice for indoor spaces, especially in hydroculture. This plant originally comes from the tropical regions of Asia and is known for its attractive, colourfully patterned leaves. Growing it in hydroculture offers the advantage of easier care, especially in modern, urban environments.
Hydroculture care tips:
Light: Aglaonema Madonna does best in low to moderate indirect light. Too much sunlight can bleach or scorch the leaves. A position in shade or partial shade is ideal, especially in offices or rooms with little natural light.
Water: As Aglaonema Madonna grows in hydroculture, monitoring the water level is crucial. Keep the water level constantly between the minimum and optimum marks on the hydroculture system's indicator. Make sure the roots are not completely submerged, to avoid root rot.
Temperature and humidity: This plant prefers a constant temperature between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. It does well in average humidity but can also survive in drier indoor spaces. In dry climates, occasionally misting the leaves can be beneficial.
Feeding: During the growing season from spring to autumn, add a weak solution of a special hydroculture fertiliser roughly every four to six weeks. In winter, feeding can be reduced or stopped altogether, as the plant then needs fewer nutrients.
Leaf care: The leaves can be wiped regularly with a damp cloth to remove dust and promote photosynthesis. Yellowed or damaged leaves should be carefully cut off to support healthy growth.
