Aglaonema Silver Bay is one of the most popular varieties of the genus Aglaonema, also known as Chinese evergreen. This plant originally comes from the rainforests of South-East Asia, where it grows naturally in the tropical areas. The species is known for its striking silver leaf patterns, which form an attractive contrast to the deep green of the rest of the foliage.
Care tips for Aglaonema Silver Bay in hydroculture:
Light:
Aglaonema Silver Bay does best in indirect light. Direct sunlight should be avoided, as it can scorch the leaves. This plant is happy in rooms with little light or in offices.
Water:
This plant prefers evenly moist conditions. In a hydroculture pot, the nursery pot should stand about 2 cm deep in water. However, the roots should not be completely submerged, to avoid rot.
Temperature and humidity:
Aglaonema Silver Bay likes warm temperatures between 18 and 26 degrees Celsius. The plant prefers higher humidity but also tolerates dry indoor conditions. If the air is too dry, it can help to mist the plant with water occasionally.
Feeding:
During the growing season in spring and summer, the plant can be fed every four to six weeks with a balanced houseplant fertiliser. In winter, feeding should be reduced or stopped altogether.
Leaf care:
The leaves can be dusted occasionally to promote photosynthesis. Yellowed or dead leaves should be removed to encourage new leaves to grow.
