Here are the most important care tips for Alocasia Cucullata in hydroculture:
Light:
Alocasia Cucullata prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight should be avoided, as it can scorch the leaves. If there is too little light, the plant grows more slowly.
Temperature:
Temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius are ideal. Draughts and sudden changes in temperature should be avoided, as they can stress the plant.
Water:
As the plant grows in hydroculture, it is important to change the water regularly, roughly every two to three weeks. Make sure the roots are always in water but the leaves do not come into contact with water, to prevent rot.
Nutrients:
Use a special hydroculture fertiliser that contains all the necessary macro- and micronutrients. Feed every two weeks, but at half strength, to avoid overfeeding.
Humidity:
Alocasia Cucullata prefers high humidity of at least 60%. If the air is dry, misting the leaves regularly helps.
Cleaning:
The leaves should be kept clean by wiping them regularly with a damp cloth. This promotes photosynthesis and prevents pest infestations.
Checks:
Check regularly for signs of pests such as spider mites or aphids. Such problems are less common in hydroculture, but caution is still advisable.
Rest period:
In winter, when growth slows down, reduce feeding and adjust the amount of water accordingly to minimise the risk of root rot.
