Product information "Hydro - Areca Palm Dypsis Lutescens"

The areca palm, botanically known as Dypsis lutescens, is a popular houseplant that is widely grown thanks to its attractive, feathery leaves and its ability to be kept in hydroculture. Hydroculture is a method in which plants are grown in a water-based nutrient solution instead of soil. This offers many advantages, including better control of moisture levels and a reduced likelihood of pests and diseases.

Care tips for the areca palm in hydroculture:

Location:
A well-lit location is preferred. The plant does best in bright, indirect light with a little sun, but can also grow in slightly shady areas.

Temperature:
The ideal temperature is between 18°C and 24°C. Draughts and sudden temperature fluctuations should be avoided to prevent stress for the plant.

Watering:
The water level in the hydroculture container should be checked regularly. The nutrient solution should be kept moist, but waterlogging must be avoided, as it can lead to root rot. Water as soon as the water runs low.

Feeding:
A special hydroculture fertiliser ensures that the areca palm receives all the nutrients it needs. Follow the instructions on the packaging to avoid overfertilising.

Humidity:
The plant prefers high humidity. Humidity can be increased by regular misting or by using a humidifier nearby.

Repotting:
If the roots become too large and overfill the hydroculture container, the plant should be repotted. A larger container and fresh hydroculture nutrient solution are needed.

Cleaning:
The leaves should be wiped regularly with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. This helps keep the plant healthy and free of pests.

Pests:
Watch out for signs of pests such as spider mites or scale insects. If pests are found, use a suitable insecticide or temporarily quarantine the plant to prevent them from spreading.

Pruning:
Dead or damaged leaves should be removed regularly to improve the plant's appearance and prevent infections. Use clean, sharp tools so as not to injure the plant.
