Dracaena fragrans Lemon Lime is an attractive houseplant that originally comes from tropical Africa and is well suited to growing in hydroculture. In the 1960s and 1970s it gained popularity in Europe and the USA, especially as an easy-care office plant.
Hydroculture care tips:
Light: Dracaena fragrans Lemon Lime prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight should be avoided, as it can scorch the leaves. Partial shade is well tolerated, but too little light can slow growth and affect the leaf colouring.
Water: In hydroculture, the water level should be kept constantly at an optimal level. The water level indicator should be checked regularly and ideally sit between “Minimum” and “Optimum”. Waterlogging must be avoided at all costs, as it can lead to root rot.
Temperature and humidity: This Dracaena thrives best at temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. Moderate humidity is beneficial. Dry air from heating in winter can harm the plant, so it helps to mist it regularly or use a humidifier.
Feeding: During the growing season in spring and summer, the Dracaena fragrans Lemon Lime should be fed with a special hydroculture fertiliser every four to six weeks. It is recommended to use only half the amount of fertiliser stated on the packaging to avoid over-fertilising. In winter, feeding can be reduced or stopped altogether.
Leaf care: The leaves should be dusted regularly to support photosynthesis. If necessary, they can also be cleaned with a damp cloth to remove dust and deposits. Yellowed or damaged leaves should be carefully cut off to encourage the growth of new leaves and keep the plant healthy.
