Dracaena reflexa Song of Sri Lanka is an attractive houseplant that originally comes from Madagascar. As a robust and easy-care plant, it is especially popular in hydroculture. This plant is characterised by its narrow, glossy leaves with pale, cream-coloured stripes. It thrives well in hydroculture, as this ensures good water storage and oxygen supply for the roots.

Hydroculture care tips:

Light: Dracaena reflexa Song of Sri Lanka prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves. It can also survive in low light, but this may slow growth and affect leaf colour.

Water: The water level in the hydroculture pot should be monitored carefully. The plant likes even moisture, so it is important that the water level indicator is always in the optimal range, preferably between "Minimum" and "Optimum". Waterlogging must be avoided to prevent root rot.

Temperature and humidity: This plant feels most comfortable at temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. Moderate humidity of around 50 to 60 per cent is ideal. During dry winter months, it can help to mist the plant occasionally with water or to use a humidifier.

Feeding: During the growing season, especially in spring and summer, Dracaena reflexa should be fed every four to six weeks with a special hydroculture fertiliser. Use only half the amount of fertiliser to avoid over-fertilising. In winter, feeding can be reduced or suspended.

Leaf care: The leaves should be dusted regularly to prevent dust build-up, which could impair photosynthesis. If necessary, the leaves can also be wiped with a damp cloth. Remove yellowed or damaged leaves to promote the plant's health and support new growth.
