Ficus Exotica, also known as Ficus benjamina 'Exotica', is a popular houseplant from the mulberry family (Moraceae). This plant originally comes from the tropical regions of Asia and Australia. With its glossy, oval leaves and characteristic growth habit, Ficus Exotica has won the hearts of plant lovers worldwide. In recent decades, growing Ficus Exotica in hydroculture has become a preferred method for many plant enthusiasts.
Care tips for Ficus Exotica in hydroculture:
Light:
Ficus Exotica needs sufficient bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. A spot near a window with a curtain or in a well-lit room is ideal.
Watering:
In hydroculture, watering is done by filling the water reservoir in the container. Make sure the water is always in contact with the roots, but avoid waterlogging. Check the water level regularly and top up as needed.
Feeding:
Nutrient supply is crucial in hydroculture. Use a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser according to the manufacturer's instructions. Ficus Exotica benefits from regular but moderate feeding during the growing season (spring to summer).
Humidity:
Ficus Exotica thrives in increased humidity. Mist the leaves regularly with water, but make sure no standing droplets remain on the leaves to prevent fungal diseases.
Temperature:
Keep Ficus Exotica within a temperature range of 18°C to 24°C. Protect it from draughts and sudden temperature fluctuations.
Repotting:
Every few years, Ficus Exotica should be repotted into fresh hydroculture medium to provide enough room for root growth.
Pruning:
Regular pruning encourages compact growth and prevents the plant from becoming too sparse. Remove dead or excessively long shoots.
