Product information "Hydro - Fishtail Palm Caryota Mitis - Ø28/19 cm"

The fishtail palm, scientifically known as Caryota, is an exotic houseplant that is very popular with plant lovers because of its striking leaves and elegant appearance. This plant originally comes from the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia and belongs to the palm family. The fishtail palm is well suited to hydroculture, which means it can grow in water instead of soil.

Care tips for the fishtail palm in hydroculture:

Light

A bright spot without direct sunlight is ideal. A place near an east- or west-facing window is best. Direct midday sun should be avoided, as it can scorch the leaves.

Water
The water in the hydroculture should be clean and as free as possible from lime and impurities. Filtered or distilled water is particularly suitable. The water level in the container should always be in the optimal range – neither too high nor too low – to avoid root rot.

Humidity
As a tropical plant, the fishtail palm prefers high humidity. Regularly misting the leaves or using a humidifier supports healthy growth. A saucer filled with water and pebbles can also help to increase humidity locally.

Feeding
During the growing phase – usually in spring and summer – a regular supply of nutrients is necessary. A special liquid fertiliser for hydroculture should be used about every two weeks, according to the instructions on the packaging.

Temperature
The optimal ambient temperature is between 18 and 24 °C. Cool draughts or sharp temperature fluctuations should be avoided.

Repotting
When the root system completely fills the available space, a larger hydroculture pot is recommended. When repotting, fresh substrate should be used and the water in the container renewed.
