Philodendron scandens, also known as the climbing philodendron or heartleaf philodendron, is a popular houseplant that is ideal for hydroculture. Philodendron scandens in hydroculture is a great option for houseplant lovers, as it offers an efficient and easy-care way of growing plants. By following the care tips below, you can make sure that your Philodendron scandens grows healthily and happily in hydroculture.
Care tips for Philodendron scandens in hydroculture:
Light
A location with bright, indirect light is ideal. Direct sun should be avoided, as it can damage the leaves. The philodendron stays robust even with a little less light, but then grows more slowly.
Temperature
The plant prefers temperatures between 18 and 24 °C. Cold draughts and sudden temperature fluctuations should be avoided.
Water
The water in the hydroculture container should always be kept at a medium level on the water level indicator. A complete water change is advisable roughly every two to four weeks. Avoid waterlogging.
Nutrients
During the growing season, a special hydroculture fertiliser should be used every two to four weeks. Dose according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Humidity
Increased humidity is appreciated but not essential. In dry indoor air, occasionally misting the leaves can help.
Substrate
Expanded clay is a suitable hydroculture substrate, providing good aeration and stability for the roots.
Repotting
The plant needs a new pot once the roots completely fill the old one. Fresh expanded clay can be used and the water in the container renewed at the same time.
Cleaning
Dust on the leaves can impair photosynthesis. The leaves should therefore be wiped regularly with a damp cloth.
Pests
Checking for spider mites or aphids is recommended. In case of infestation, natural remedies such as neem oil or suitable organic plant protection products can help.
