Hydro – Sansevieria trifasciata “Futura Superba”
Sansevieria trifasciata “Futura Superba” is a particularly robust and easy-care snake plant with broad, upright, dark green leaves and striking light green to yellowish leaf edges. Its compact growth and decorative leaf markings make it an attractive houseplant for modern living spaces or offices. In hydroculture, this variety thrives reliably with the right water supply and is ideal for plant lovers who want to keep care to a minimum.
Care in hydroculture
Light:
A bright spot with plenty of indirect light is ideal. Partially shaded spots are also tolerated. Some morning or evening sun is fine, but intense midday sun should be avoided.
Temperature:
Ideally 18–27 °C; do not keep below 12 °C. Avoid cold draughts and large temperature fluctuations.
Humidity:
Normal room air is sufficient; there is no need to increase humidity specially.
Substrate:
Use hydroculture granules (expanded clay) for good aeration of the roots and a stable water supply.
Watering:
Check the water level regularly and only top up once the water level indicator shows “Minimum”. Wait a few days before refilling. Be sure to avoid waterlogging, as permanently wet roots can lead to rot.
Feeding:
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season from spring to autumn with special hydroculture fertiliser at the recommended dosage. In winter, feed only sparingly, or not at all if there is no growth.
Special features:
The hydro Sansevieria “Futura Superba” is easy to care for, long-lived and ideal for beginners. Its broad, dark green leaves with light edges add a decorative accent and suit many interior styles. Thanks to its water-storing leaves, it copes well with short dry spells and needs very little care.
Overwintering tips
In winter, reduce water use and only top up once the water level indicator shows “Minimum”. Do not leave the roots permanently standing in water. Keep temperatures as constant as possible above 12 °C and avoid cold draughts. Feed only sparingly during the darker season. The plant keeps its decorative leaves in winter too and remains an attractive eye-catcher.
