Hydro – Snake Plant Sansevieria “Silver Flame”
The snake plant Sansevieria “Silver Flame” is a particularly decorative, easy-care houseplant with upright, sturdy leaves and a striking silvery-green pattern. Its elegant appearance makes it an attractive eye-catcher in modern living spaces or offices. The plant is robust, undemanding and ideally suited to hydroculture.
Care in hydroculture
Light:
Bright to partially shaded spot with plenty of indirect light. The plant also copes with darker spots. Avoid direct midday sun where possible.
Temperature:
Ideally 18–27 °C; do not keep below 12 °C. Avoid cold draughts.
Humidity:
Normal room air is perfectly sufficient; increased humidity is not necessary.
Substrate:
Hydroculture granules (expanded clay) for good aeration of the roots and an even water supply.
Watering:
Check the water level and only top up once the water level indicator shows “Minimum”. Then wait a few days before adding more water. Be sure to avoid waterlogging, as the roots can react sensitively to permanently too much water.
Feeding:
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season from spring to autumn with special hydroculture fertiliser at the recommended dosage. In winter, feed considerably less.
Special features:
The hydro Sansevieria “Silver Flame” is particularly easy to care for, undemanding and ideal for beginners. Its silvery-green leaves give any room an elegant, modern touch. The plant stores water in its leaves and tolerates short dry spells better than permanently wet roots.
Overwintering tips
In winter, reduce water use and only top up once the water level indicator reaches “Minimum”. Do not leave the roots permanently standing in water. Keep temperatures as constant as possible above 12 °C and avoid cold draughts. Feed only sparingly during the darker season. The plant remains a decorative eye-catcher in winter too.
