History of the Aglaonema Amazon Silver
Aglaonema Amazon Silver is an elegant and easy-care foliage plant that delights with its broad, oval leaves and striking silvery-green colouring. The leaves show a beautiful silver-grey pattern framed by darker green areas, giving the plant a refined, modern appearance. Aglaonema species originally come from the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, where they grow in warm, humid and shady forests. Amazon Silver is particularly well suited to homes and offices and also copes with less light.
Care as a houseplant:
• Light: Partially shaded to shady spot with indirect light. Less bright spots are also well tolerated. Avoid direct midday sun, as it can scorch the leaves.
• Temperature: Ideally 18–27 °C; avoid temperatures below 16 °C where possible.
• Humidity: Medium to high; increased humidity promotes strong growth and beautiful leaves.
• Substrate: Loose, humus-rich and free-draining houseplant substrate. Good drainage is important to avoid waterlogging.
• Watering: Keep evenly and slightly moist. The top layer of substrate may dry out slightly between waterings. Avoid waterlogging.
• Feeding: During the growing season, feed roughly every 3–4 weeks with a weak liquid fertiliser for foliage plants.
• Special features: The silver-patterned leaves and compact, upright growth make Aglaonema Amazon Silver a particularly decorative houseplant. It is also suitable for spots where many other plants struggle due to lower light levels.
• Important for pet owners: Aglaonema should be placed out of reach of pets and small children and is not suitable for consumption.
Overwintering tips:
Water a little less in winter and continue to keep it as bright as possible to partially shaded. Temperatures should remain as constant as possible above 16 °C. Avoid cold draughts and placing it right next to radiators. With less light, its water requirement also decreases.
