History of the Anthurium Maine Pink
Anthurium Maine Pink is an attractive and colourful anthurium variety that delights with its elegant inflorescences and glossy, rich green foliage. The pink to bright pink bracts are particularly striking and give the plant a fresh, decorative character. The actual flowers sit on the characteristic spadix in the centre of the coloured bract. Anthuriums originally come from the tropical regions of Central and South America, where they grow in warm, humid habitats. As a houseplant, Maine Pink is a stylish eye-catcher with its bright flowers and exotic appearance.
Care as a houseplant:
• Light: Bright spot with plenty of indirect light. Some morning or evening sun is well tolerated. Avoid intense midday sun, as leaves and flowers can be sensitive.
• Temperature: Ideally 18–28 °C; avoid temperatures below 16 °C if possible.
• Humidity: Medium to high; around 60–80 % is ideal. Increased humidity supports healthy growth and a long flowering period.
• Substrate: Loose, airy and free-draining aroid substrate, for example made of pine bark, perlite, coco chips and some high-quality potting soil.
• Watering: Water moderately and let the substrate dry out slightly between waterings. Be sure to avoid waterlogging.
• Feeding: During the growing season, feed about every 2–3 weeks with a weakly dosed liquid fertiliser for flowering or foliage plants.
• Special features: The striking pink inflorescences make Anthurium Maine Pink a particularly decorative houseplant. Spent inflorescences can be carefully removed so that the plant can invest its energy in new growth.
• Important for pet owners: Anthuriums are not suitable for consumption and should be placed out of reach of cats, dogs and other pets. The plant contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause irritation if chewed or swallowed.
Overwintering tips:
Water a little less in winter and keep it as bright and warm as possible. Temperatures should remain as constant as possible above 16 °C. Avoid cold draughts and sharp temperature fluctuations. Increased humidity can be helpful when the heating makes the air dry.
