Soil for carnivorous plants

This special soil was developed for plants such as Nepenthes, Drosera, Dionaea or Sarracenia , which in nature thrive on nutrient-poor, acidic bog soils. They absorb nutrients from their prey rather than from the soil – which is why conventional potting soil is unsuitable.

Properties:

  • Nutrient-poor: No fertiliser or compost, to avoid over-fertilising.

  • Loose & free-draining: Promotes air circulation and prevents waterlogging.

  • Mix: sphagnum, coconut, quartz sand, perlite.

  • Acidic pH value: Usually between 3.5 and 5, ideal for carnivorous plants.

Application tips:

  • Water with rainwater, distilled or demineralised water. Water containing lime damages the plants.

  • No fertiliser needed, as carnivorous plants absorb nutrients through their traps.

  • Use pots with drainage holes and a saucer for even moisture.
