History of the croton Codiaeum Petra

The croton Codiaeum Petra comes from the tropical regions of Southeast Asia and delights with its large, leathery leaves in green, yellow, orange and red. Each plant develops a unique, colourful leaf pattern.

Care as a houseplant:

  • Light: Very bright, ideally with some morning or evening sun.

  • Temperature: Ideally 20–28 °C, not below 15 °C.

  • Humidity: High humidity preferred.

  • Substrate: Nutrient-rich, loose and well- draining.

  • Watering: Keep consistently slightly moist ; waterlogging must be avoided.

  • Feeding: Feed from spring to autumn every 2–4 weeks .

  • Special features: Plenty of light promotes a rich leaf colour. Changes of location should, if possible, be avoided.

  • Important for pet owners: Toxic for cats and dogs. The milky sap can irritate the skin and mucous membranes .

Tips for the winter:

Keep bright and warm and, if possible, at an even temperature . Water less, but the root ball should not completely dry out. Cold draughts should be avoided.
