History of the Dracaena Jade Jewel
Dracaena Jade Jewel is an elegant and decorative houseplant that delights with its strong, dark green foliage and striking pale leaf stripes. The narrow, slightly upright leaves form dense tufts and give the plant a modern yet tropical appearance. Jade Jewel is one of the popular Dracaena varieties and, thanks to its comparatively straightforward care, is ideal for homes and offices. Dracaenas originally come from tropical and subtropical regions of Africa and Asia, where they grow in warm habitats.
Care as a houseplant:
• Light: Bright to partially shaded spot with plenty of indirect light. Some morning or evening sun is well tolerated. Avoid intense midday sun.
• Temperature: 18–27 °C is optimal; avoid temperatures below 15 °C where possible.
• Humidity: Medium; normal room air is usually well tolerated. However, slightly higher humidity supports healthy leaf growth.
• Substrate: Loose, nutrient-rich and free-draining houseplant substrate. Good drainage prevents waterlogging.
• Watering: Water moderately and let the top layer of substrate dry out well between waterings. Be sure to avoid waterlogging. Use low-lime water if possible.
• Feeding: During the growing season, feed roughly every 3–4 weeks with a liquid fertiliser for foliage plants.
• Special features: The combination of dark green foliage and pale stripes makes Dracaena Jade Jewel a particularly decorative eye-catcher. It grows relatively slowly and therefore needs comparatively little pruning and care.
• Important for pet owners: Dracaena Jade Jewel is not suitable for consumption by pets. Dracaenas can cause gastrointestinal problems, among other things, in cats and dogs if eaten. The plant should therefore be placed out of reach of pets.
Overwintering tips:
Water a little less in winter and continue to keep it as bright as possible. Temperatures should stay as constantly as possible above 15–16 °C. Avoid cold draughts and sharp temperature fluctuations. Because there is less light, its water requirement is also reduced.
