History of the Dracaena Marginata
The Dracaena Marginata, also known as the dragon tree, is a popular, easy-care houseplant that impresses with its elegant, upright growth and long, narrow leaves. The dark green leaves with reddish edges give the plant a modern yet exotic appearance. The Dracaena marginata originally comes from Madagascar, where it grows in tropical to subtropical regions. It has been a classic houseplant for many years and is particularly valued for its robustness and air-improving properties.
Care as a houseplant:
• Light: Bright to partially shaded spot; indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct midday sun.
• Temperature: 18–26 °C is ideal; temperatures below 15 °C should be avoided.
• Humidity: Medium; normal indoor air is well tolerated.
• Substrate: Loose, free-draining foliage plant substrate with a little sand or perlite.
• Watering: Water moderately; let the substrate dry out slightly between waterings. Avoid waterlogging.
• Feeding: During the growing season, every 2–4 weeks with a liquid fertiliser for foliage plants.
• Special features: Very easy to care for and ideal for homes and offices; also tolerates less light.
Overwintering tips:
Water a little less in winter and continue to keep it in a bright spot. Temperatures should remain as constant as possible above 15 °C. The Dracaena Marginata is a decorative, easy-care houseplant that adds modern accents with its slender growth and striking leaves.
