History of the Maranta Lemon Lime
The Maranta Lemon Lime is a particularly striking variety of the Maranta family, known for its unique, bright green leaves with pale yellow veins. It originally comes from the tropical rainforests of South America, where it grows as ground cover beneath a dense canopy. It belongs to the arrowroot family (Marantaceae) and is a popular choice among houseplant lovers. Like all marantas, it follows the day-night rhythm and raises or lowers its leaves – which is why it is also called the “prayer plant”.
Care as a houseplant:
- Light: Bright to partially shaded spot without direct sun.
- Temperature: Ideally 18–26 °C; it should not drop below 15 °C.
- Humidity: High (60–80 %); regular misting or a humidifier is recommended.
- Substrate: Loose, humus-rich substrate with good drainage, e.g. a mix of potting soil, coconut fibre and perlite.
- Watering: Keep evenly moist but avoid waterlogging; ideally water with low-lime water.
- Feeding: From spring to autumn, every 2–4 weeks with a weak dose of liquid fertiliser.
- Special features: This houseplant is sensitive to dry air from heating – high humidity is crucial for its well-being.
Care as a terrarium plant:
- Light: Bright, indirect light or artificial lighting in the terrarium.
- Temperature: 22–28 °C during the day, not below 18 °C at night.
- Humidity: Very high (70–90 %); perfect for humid terrariums.
- Substrate: Loose, well-aerated terrarium substrate with high moisture retention.
- Watering: Keep evenly moist, but do not allow waterlogging.
- Terrarium conditions: Excellently suited to rainforest terrariums with high humidity.
Overwintering tips:
The temperature should not drop below 15 °C. During the heating season, ensure sufficient humidity to avoid brown leaf edges. This easy-care houseplant is a perfect choice for anyone who wants to bring a tropical touch into their home.

Nicht meine erste Maranta aber meine erste von Zimmerpflanzen.ch. Und man merkt den Unterschied. Hier bekommt man Qualität! Die Pflanze sprüht nur so vor Gesundheit und Lebensfreude, kam unbeschädigt und fröhlich blühend bei mir an und beglückt mich bereits jetzt mit etlichen neuen Blättern.
