History of the Alocasia Golden Bone
Alocasia Golden Bone is a striking and decorative Alocasia that delights with its sturdy leaf stalks and distinctive golden-yellow colouring. Particularly characteristic is the strong contrast between the rich green leaves and the yellowish-gold to orange stalks that give the plant its name. The arrow- to heart-shaped leaves lend it an elegant, tropical look. Like many Alocasia species, this plant comes from the tropical regions of Southeast Asia, where it grows in warm, humid habitats.
Care as a houseplant:
• Light: A bright spot with plenty of indirect light. Some morning or evening sun is tolerated, but intense midday sun should be avoided.
• Temperature: 20–28 °C is optimal; avoid temperatures below 16 °C where possible.
• Humidity: High; around 60–80 % is ideal. Consistently raised humidity supports healthy growth and beautiful leaves.
• Substrate: Loose, airy and free-draining aroid substrate, for example made of bark, perlite, coconut chips and some high-quality potting soil.
• Watering: Keep evenly and slightly moist. The top layer of substrate may dry out slightly between waterings. Be sure to avoid waterlogging.
• Feeding: During the growing season, feed roughly every 2–3 weeks with a weakly dosed liquid fertiliser for foliage plants or aroids.
• Special features: The striking golden stalks contrast strongly with the green foliage, making Alocasia Golden Bone a special eye-catcher for plant lovers and collectors.
Overwintering tips:
Water a little less in winter and continue to keep it as bright and warm as possible. Temperatures should stay as constant as possible above 16–18 °C. Avoid cold draughts and sharp temperature fluctuations. In unfavourable conditions, an Alocasia may temporarily lose individual leaves or go into a dormant phase.
