Product information "Hanging Pot - Fishbone Cactus Epiphyllum Anguliger"

History of the fishbone cactus Epiphyllum anguliger

The fishbone cactus (Epiphyllum anguliger) is an exotic houseplant that originally comes from the tropical rainforests of Mexico. Unlike typical cacti, it grows as an epiphyte on trees and develops long, flat, toothed leaves reminiscent of a saw blade. It is particularly popular for its large, fragrant flowers, which often open at night.

Care as a houseplant:

  • Light: Bright spot with plenty of indirect light; no direct midday sun.

  • Temperature: Ideally 18–25 °C; do not keep below 10 °C.

  • Humidity: Medium to high; occasional misting promotes growth.

  • Substrate: Loose, free-draining substrate, e.g. cactus soil mixed with bark or perlite.

  • Watering: Water moderately; let the substrate dry out slightly, but never completely. Avoid waterlogging.

  • Feeding: Every 4 weeks with cactus fertiliser during the growing season.

  • Special features: This houseplant can produce spectacular, fragrant flowers if it is given a short dry rest before the flowering season.

Overwintering tips:

In winter, water less and do not keep below 10 °C. The fishbone cactus is an easy-care houseplant that delights with its unusual growth and impressive flowers.
