History of the Hoya Gracilis

The Hoya Gracilis is a delicate, trailing houseplant from the tropical regions of Asia. It belongs to the dogbane family (Apocynaceae) and is particularly popular for its dainty, succulent leaves and its delicate, star-shaped flowers. As a climbing plant, it is ideal for hanging pots or as a terrarium plant.

Care as a houseplant:

  • Light: Bright position with indirect light; direct sun can scorch the leaves.

  • Temperature: Ideally 18–28 °C; do not keep below 12 °C.

  • Humidity: Medium to high; regular misting promotes healthy growth.

  • Substrate: Loose, well-draining substrate, e.g. orchid or succulent soil.

  • Watering: Keep evenlymoist, but avoid waterlogging; allow to dry out slightly between waterings.

  • Feeding: Every 4 weeks during the growing season with liquid fertiliser for succulents or flowering plants.

  • Special features: This houseplant climbs or trails well; a trellis or hanging basket is ideal.

Overwintering tips:
