History of the Alocasia gageana
Alocasia gageana comes from the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia and belongs to the arum family (Araceae). It is a more compact Alocasia species with large, glossy green leaves reminiscent of elephant ears. Thanks to its exotic appearance, it is a popular houseplant that brings a tropical flair to living spaces.
Care as a houseplant:
- Light: Bright spot with indirect light; avoid direct sun.
- Temperature: Ideally 18–27 °C; do not keep below 15 °C.
- Humidity: Prefers high humidity; regular misting promotes healthy growth.
- Substrate: Loose, free-draining substrate with a high organic content.
- Watering: Keep evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging.
- Feeding: Every 2–4 weeks with liquid fertiliser during the growing season.
- Special features: This houseplant may lose leaves during its dormant period, but sprouts again in spring.
Overwintering tips:
