History of the Calathea White Fusion
The Calathea White Fusion is an exceptional houseplant that comes from the tropical rainforests of South America. It delights with its elegant white-and-green variegated leaves, which show a delicate purple tone on the underside. This rare and sought-after Calathea variety stands for stylish elegance.
Care as a houseplant:
- Light: Bright spot with indirect light; avoid direct sunlight, as the variegation is sensitive.
- Temperature: Ideally 18–26 °C, at least 16 °C in winter.
- Humidity: High humidity of 60–80 % is essential; regular misting or a humidifier is recommended.
- Substrate: Loose, free-draining substrate, e.g. a mix of potting soil, perlite, bark and coconut fibre.
- Watering: Keep evenly moist; the substrate should not dry out, but avoid waterlogging.
- Feeding: Every 2–4 weeks during the growing season with a houseplant fertiliser suited to foliage plants.
- Special features: The Calathea White Fusion is a lively houseplant that stands out from other plants with its dancing leaves, which close at night and open in the morning.
Care as a terrarium plant:
- Light: Bright, indirect light or grow lights; UV light promotes leaf health.
- Temperature: Tropical temperatures between 22–26 °C, not below 18 °C at night.
- Humidity: Very high humidity of 70–90 % is necessary; a mister or regular misting helps to create optimal conditions.
- Substrate: An airy, moisture-regulating substrate, such as terrarium soil with sphagnum moss and some bark.
- Watering: Always keep the substrate slightly moist, but drain off excess water well.
- Terrarium conditions: In a tropical terrarium with high humidity and constant temperatures, the Calathea White Fusion thrives particularly well.
Overwintering tips:
In winter, the Calathea White Fusion should be kept in a warm, bright spot at no less than 16 °C. Watering can be reduced slightly, but the substrate should still never dry out. High humidity is essential to protect the delicate, beautifully patterned leaves.
