History of the Zamioculcas Zenzi
The Zamioculcas Zenzi is a compact cultivar of the well-known ZZ plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia). The species originally comes from the dry regions of East Africa, where it is adapted to extreme conditions. The 'Zenzi' variety stands out with its particularly compact growth and its thicker, slightly curved, dark green leaves. This makes this houseplant look especially dense and decorative, and it is ideal for smaller rooms or modern living concepts.
Care as a houseplant:
Light: Bright to partially shaded spot; also copes well with little light.
Temperature: Ideally 18–26 °C; do not keep below 15 °C.
Humidity: Normal indoor air is sufficient.
Substrate: Free-draining potting soil, ideally mixed with sand or perlite.
Watering: Water very sparingly; only once the soil is completely dry. Be sure to avoid waterlogging.
Feeding: During the growing season, every 4–6 weeks with liquid fertiliser for foliage plants.
Special features: This houseplant stores water in its rhizomes and is therefore extremely easy to care for and tolerant of drought.
Overwintering tips:
In winter, water considerably less and do not let temperatures drop below 15 °C. The Zamioculcas Zenzi is an extremely robust houseplant and perfect for anyone looking for a decorative but low-maintenance plant.
