History of the Pseudolarix amabilis bonsai
The Pseudolarix amabilis, also called golden larch, originally comes from China and is a rare deciduous conifer. Grown as a bonsai, it delights with fine, soft needles that turn golden yellow in autumn. Thanks to its calm, elegant growth, it is especially popular with lovers of Asian garden art and is increasingly valued as a special houseplant or balcony bonsai.
Care as an outdoor plant:
-
Light: Bright position with direct morning or evening sun, no blazing sunlight at midday.
-
Temperature: 15–25 °C is optimal; can overwinter outdoors in a sheltered spot, indoors as cool as possible (5–10 °C) in winter.
-
Humidity: Medium to high; occasional misting promotes its well-being.
-
Substrate: Well-draining bonsai soil, ideally akadama or special bonsai mixes.
-
Watering: Keep evenly moist, but do not allow waterlogging. Water more sparingly in winter.
-
Feeding: Every 2 weeks from spring to autumn with organic bonsai fertiliser.
-
Special features: As a bonsai, this plant develops a beautiful, venerable aura and is ideal for bonsai beginners with a little patience.
Overwintering tips:
It is best overwintered somewhere cool and bright, such as an unheated conservatory or a sheltered outdoor area. Pseudolarix amabilis is a fascinating plant and a real asset for all fans of bonsai and special houseplants.
