History of Dendrobium orchids
The Dendrobium orchids belong to one of the largest genera within the orchid family (Orchidaceae) and are mainly found in the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Australia. These versatile plants are known for their impressive flowers, which come in a variety of colours and shapes. Dendrobium orchids are often used in floristry and, thanks to their longevity and diversity, are a popular choice for houseplant lovers. A set of 6 offers the opportunity to combine different varieties and create a colourful ambience.
Caring for Dendrobium orchids
-
Light: Bright spot with indirect light; direct midday sun should be avoided.
-
Temperature: Ideally 18–28 °C; during the winter dormant period the temperature can be somewhat cooler (10–15 °C).
-
Humidity: Moderate to high (50–70 %); regular misting or a humidifier helps.
-
Substrate: Free-draining orchid substrate that allows air circulation, e.g. bark or special orchid compost.
-
Watering: Water moderately; the substrate should dry out slightly between waterings. Water more often during flowering.
-
Feeding: Every 2–4 weeks with a special orchid fertiliser during the growing season.
-
Special features: Dendrobium orchids need a rest period after flowering, during which they need less water and fertiliser.
Overwintering tips
In winter, watering should be reduced to prevent root rot. Dendrobium orchids are easy to care for and, with the right care, can thrive and flower for many years. The set of 6 lets you enjoy a beautiful and varied collection of these fascinating orchids.
