Product information "Hanging Pot - Monstera Monkey Leaf"

History of the Monstera obliqua Monkey Leaf

The Monstera obliqua Monkey Leaf is a rare and fascinating houseplant from the tropical rainforests of South America. It belongs to the arum family and is known for its extremely thin, heavily perforated leaves, which give it a delicate appearance. This special Monstera species is often confused with Monstera adansonii, but differs in its even finer leaves and higher humidity requirements.

Care as a houseplant:

Light: Bright spot with indirect light, no direct sun.
Temperature: Ideally 20–26 °C; should not drop below 18 °C.
Humidity: Very high (70–90 %); regular misting or a humidifier is recommended.
Substrate: Loose, free-draining substrate with plenty of bark and perlite.
Watering: Water moderately; let the substrate dry slightly, but not dry out completely.
Feeding: Every 2 weeks with a mild liquid fertiliser during the growing season.
Special features: Because of its delicate leaves and high humidity requirements, it is more demanding than other Monstera species.

Care as a terrarium plant:

Light: Good LED grow light or diffused daylight in the terrarium.
Temperature: Ideally 22–28 °C, never below 18 °C.
Humidity: Very high humidity of 80–90 % is ideal.
Substrate: Moisture-regulating substrate with moss, bark and perlite.
Watering: Check moisture regularly; slightly moist but not wet substrate.
Special features: Particularly well suited to humid tropical terrariums, where it often grows better than in ordinary living spaces.

Overwintering tips:

Humidity must remain high in winter too. Water less, but do not let the substrate dry out. Temperatures should stay consistently above 18 °C.
