History of the Scindapsus pictus Silver Ann
Scindapsus pictus Silver Ann is a fascinating variety of the popular Scindapsus pictus, which comes from the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. This novelty delights with its silvery, shimmering, heart-shaped leaves, decorated with irregular green spots. With its trailing growth, it is not only decorative but also easy to care for, making it a valued houseplant for beginners and experts alike.
Care as a houseplant:
- Light: Bright spot with indirect light; also tolerates partial shade.
- Temperature: Ideally 18–26 °C, at least 15 °C in winter.
- Humidity: Medium; occasional misting is helpful.
- Substrate: Loose, free-draining substrate, e.g. potting soil with sand or perlite.
- Watering: Water moderately; the substrate should dry out slightly between waterings.
- Feeding: Every 4–6 weeks with a weak foliage plant fertiliser during the growing phase.
Care as a terrarium plant:
- Light: Indirect lighting, ideally from plant grow lights.
- Temperature: Tropical conditions between 22–28 °C, at least 18 °C in winter.
- Humidity: High, ideally 60–80 %; ensure this by misting or with a fogger.
- Substrate: Free-draining mix, e.g. potting soil with moss or bark.
- Watering: Water sparingly; keep the substrate slightly moist but avoid waterlogging.
- Terrarium conditions: Ensure sufficient space for the tendrils and good air circulation.
