History of the Tillandsia in a glass lamp
Tillandsias, also known as air plants, originally come from Central and South America and belong to the bromeliad family. In the wild, they often grow without soil on trees or rocks. Decorated in a glass lamp , they become a modern, minimalist houseplant with a wow effect – a real eye-catcher that combines nature and design.
Care as a houseplant:
-
Light: Bright spot with plenty of indirect light; no blazing sun through glass.
-
Temperature: Ideally 18–26 °C; no draughts or cold windowsills.
-
Humidity: Medium to high; glass lamps can quickly become too dry – air regularly.
-
Substrate: No substrate needed – simply place in the lamp.
-
Watering: Mist or briefly dip in low-lime water 1–2 times a week. Then let it dry well to prevent mould.
-
Feeding: Every 4–6 weeks, add a weakly dosed tillandsia fertiliser when misting.
-
Special features: These houseplants need fresh air – open the glass regularly.
Overwintering tips:
Bright spot, minimal watering, no cold below 12 °C. Tillandsias in glass lamps are modern houseplants that impress with their unusual growth and easy-care nature.
