History of the Hoya Flamingo Dream

The Hoya Flamingo Dream is a special cultivar of the wax plant. Hoyas originally come from the tropical regions of Asia and Australia, where they grow as climbing or trailing plants. This variety delights with its slightly pink to variegated leaves and compact growth. As a houseplant it is particularly popular with collectors and is excellent for bright spots or as a decorative hanging plant.

Care as a houseplant:

  • Light: Bright spot with plenty of indirect light; some morning or evening sun is ideal.

  • Temperature: Ideally 18–26 °C; do not keep below 15 °C.

  • Humidity: Medium to high; normal room air is tolerated.

  • Substrate: Very free-draining, loose substrate with bark, perlite and a little potting soil.

  • Watering: Water moderately; let the substrate dry out well between waterings.

  • Feeding: Every 3–4 weeks during the growing season with a weak liquid fertiliser.

  • Special features: With good care, this houseplant produces fragrant, star-shaped flowers.

Care as a terrarium plant:

  • Location: Ideal for tropical terrariums with good ventilation.

  • Humidity: 60–80 % promotes healthy growth.

  • Temperature: 20–28 °C is ideal.

  • Substrate: Airy terrarium substrate, or it can be mounted on bark.
