History of the snake plant Sansevieria Zeylanica

The snake plant (Sansevieria Zeylanica) comes from the dry regions of Africa and South Asia, particularly Sri Lanka. This houseplant is known for its long, sword-shaped leaves with dark green markings. For centuries it has been valued as a robust and long-lived plant that is not only easy to care for but also air-purifying.

Care as a houseplant:

Light: Sunny to partially shaded spot; very adaptable.
Temperature: Ideally 18–30 °C; do not keep below 10 °C.
Humidity: Tolerant of dry air.
Substrate: Free-draining, sandy cactus soil or normal potting soil with good drainage.
Watering: Water very sparingly, only once the soil has dried out completely. Avoid waterlogging.
Feeding: Every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with cactus fertiliser.
Special features: This houseplant is extremely hardy, survives even longer dry spells and is ideal for beginners.

Overwintering tips:

In winter, water even less and do not let temperatures drop below 10 °C. The snake plant Sansevieria Zeylanica is an easy-care houseplant that enriches any home with its elegant growth and air-purifying properties.
