History of the Tillandsia cyanea Clumb Red
The Tillandsia cyanea Clumb Red is a decorative air plant from the bromeliad family that delights with its striking, intensely red inflorescence. From this flat, vivid inflorescence, delicate purple flowers gradually appear, creating a beautiful contrast. The narrow green leaves grow in a rosette and give the plant an exotic, elegant appearance. Tillandsia cyanea originally comes from the tropical rainforests of Ecuador, where it grows epiphytically on trees and absorbs water and nutrients mainly through its leaves. As a houseplant, it is very popular for its extraordinary flower and easy care.
Care as a houseplant:
• Light: Bright spot with plenty of indirect light; avoid direct midday sun.
• Temperature: 18–26 °C is optimal; avoid temperatures below 15 °C where possible.
• Humidity: Medium to high; regular misting supports the plant's well-being.
• Substrate: No conventional substrate needed; the plant can be placed decoratively on wood, stone or in open containers.
• Watering: Mist with low-lime water once or several times a week or briefly dip in water, then let it dry well. Avoid standing water in the rosette.
• Feeding: During the growing season, occasionally mist with heavily diluted tillandsia or bromeliad fertiliser.
• Special features: As an air plant, it needs no soil and is ideal for creative, natural decorations.
Overwintering tips:
Mist a little less in winter, but continue to ensure sufficient light and good air circulation. Temperatures should stay as constantly as possible above 16 °C. The Tillandsia cyanea Clumb Red is an exotic air plant whose bright red inflorescence and tropical character make it a special eye-catcher in your living space.
