History of the Tillandsia Ionantha Clumb

Tillandsia Ionantha Clumb is a popular air plant from the bromeliad family that delights with its compact growth and exotic appearance. The narrow, silvery-green leaves grow in rosettes and often turn an intense red or pink at flowering time, making the plant particularly decorative. Small purple flowers appear from the centre, creating a beautiful contrast. Tillandsia ionantha originally comes from Central and South America, where it grows epiphytically on trees, rocks or cacti and absorbs water and nutrients through its leaves.

Care as a houseplant:

• Light: Very bright spot with plenty of indirect light; some direct sun is well tolerated.

• Temperature: 18–28 °C is ideal; temperatures below 10–12 °C should be avoided.

• Humidity: Medium to high; good air circulation is particularly important.

• Substrate: No conventional substrate needed; the plant can be placed on wood, stone or in open decorative containers.

• Watering: Mist with low-lime water or briefly dip in water once or several times a week, then let it dry off well. Avoid waterlogging.

• Feeding: During the growing season, occasionally mist with heavily diluted tillandsia or orchid fertiliser.

• Special features: As an air plant, it needs no soil and is ideal for creative decorations and modern planting ideas.

Overwintering tips:
