Product information "ZZ Plant Zamioculcas Black Raven"

History of Zamioculcas zamiifolia 'Black Raven'

Zamioculcas zamiifolia 'Black Raven', also known as the ZZ plant, is an extraordinary novelty within the Zamioculcas family. This variety captivates with its almost black, glossy leaves, which are green when young and develop their dark colour over time. Originally from East Africa, it combines the robustness and easy care of the classic Zamioculcas with a particularly exotic and modern appearance.

Care as a houseplant:

  • Light: Bright to partially shaded spot; also tolerates shady places, but direct sun should be avoided.
  • Temperature: Ideally 18–26 °C, at least 15 °C in winter.
  • Humidity: Tolerant of dry room air; no additional misting necessary.
  • Substrate: Free-draining soil, e.g. potting soil with sand or perlite, to avoid waterlogging.
  • Watering: Low water requirements; only water when the substrate is completely dry. Be sure to avoid waterlogging.
  • Feeding: Every 6–8 weeks with a weak foliage plant fertiliser during the growing phase.

Care tips:

  • The 'Black Raven' is just as robust as the classic Zamioculcas, but is equally sensitive to excess moisture.
  • Remove dead or damaged leaves regularly to keep the plant healthy.
  • Only repot every few years, when the root ball completely fills the pot.
