Product information "Fiddle-Leaf Fig Ficus lyrata Branched - Ø50 cm"

History of the fiddle-leaf fig (Ficus lyrata)

The fiddle-leaf fig (Ficus lyrata) originally comes from the tropical rainforests of West Africa and has become one of the most popular houseplants worldwide. Known for its large, glossy, fiddle-shaped leaves, it gives any room a modern, tropical flair. Its striking look makes it a popular statement in stylish homes and business premises.

Care as a houseplant:

  • Light: Bright spot with plenty of indirect light; direct, intense sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf scorch.
  • Temperature: Ideally 18–26 °C; temperatures below 15 °C should be avoided.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is ideal; occasional misting supports the plant's well-being.
  • Substrate: Free-draining, humus-rich substrate, for example a mix of potting soil, perlite and a little sand, ensures optimal drainage.
  • Watering: Water evenly, making sure that the top layer of soil dries out between waterings; avoid waterlogging.
  • Feeding: During the growing season (spring to autumn), feed every 2–4 weeks with a balanced liquid fertiliser for foliage plants.

Overwintering tips:

In winter, the fiddle-leaf fig should be placed in a bright, draught-free position. Watering should be reduced, as growth slows down during this time, and temperatures should not drop below 15 °C to avoid cold damage.
