Product information "Weeping Fig Nitida Standard - Large"

History of the weeping fig Ficus benjamina Nitida

Ficus benjamina Nitida, a variety of the classic weeping fig, originally comes from tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Australia. This elegant houseplant is characterised by its dense, glossy green foliage and fast growth. It is popular as a decorative eye-catcher in homes and offices and helps to purify the air.

Care as a houseplant:

  • Light: Bright spot, also tolerates partial shade; direct sun ideally only in the morning or evening.
  • Temperature: Ideally 18–28 °C; avoid temperatures below 12 °C.
  • Humidity: Medium to high; occasional misting helps prevent leaf drop.
  • Substrate: Free-draining potting soil with a little sand or perlite for better drainage.
  • Watering: Water moderately, only once the top layer of soil is dry; avoid waterlogging.
  • Feeding: Every 2–4 weeks with liquid fertiliser for foliage plants during the growing season.
  • Special features: This houseplant can react sensitively to changes of location, draughts and dry air, which can lead to leaf drop.

Overwintering tips:

Water less and do not let temperatures drop below 12 °C. A bright spot is important to prevent excessive leaf loss. Ficus benjamina Nitida is a timeless houseplant that, with the right care, will bring you joy for many years.
